This tile depicting Flora of Stabiae It is made in marmo Botticino. Ritrae la ninfa greca, ed è uno dei più importanti dell'Impero Romano, sepolto sotto la cenere e la lava della stessa eruzione del Vesuvio che seppellì Pompei ed Ercolano nel 79 d.C. Oggi è conservato al Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli.

Historical Curiosities
Flora is one of the most fascinating figures of Pompeian art, often associated with spring and rebirth. In ancient Rome, she was the goddess of flowers, plants and fertility, and was celebrated with festivals called "Floralia", during which citizens decorated their homes and streets with fresh flowers. Nand its rituals it was necessary to participate with colored clothes to imitate the color of the flowers.
The representation of Flora that decorates this tile is inspired by the magnificent frescoes found in Pompeii, a city that offers an immense testimony to daily life and religious beliefs in ancient Rome. The frescoes of Flora, often depicted while she collects flowers or distributes garlands, symbolize the abundance and prosperity that spring brings with it.
The Sabines were a population devoted to the Goddess, so much so that they celebrated her with the throwing of broad beans and lupins and in particular represented fertility.
Maintenance

I bought this tile twice as a souvenir for my mother and my sister during my visit at Pompei last year. At home I soon regretted that I didn't buy one for myself - thankfully I found this online shop and had the chance to order the tile now. It's really very pretty and looks a bit vintage, which is great! <3
