Historical Curiosities
Venus (or Aphrodite) was considered the Goddess of Love and beauty. There are various myths about her birth, such as Homer's according to which she was the daughter of Zeus and the nymph Dione, or the legend that saw her emerge from the sea foam in spring. Wife of Vulcan (Hephaestus) was considered the accidental cause of the Trojan War.
